Dr. Tom Leighton co-founded Akamai Technologies in 1998, and served as Akamai's Chief Scientist for 14 years before becoming Chief Executive. Prior to his role as CEO, Dr. Leighton served as a Professor of Applied Mathematics at MIT and a member of the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL). As one of the world's preeminent authorities on algorithms for network applications, Dr. Leighton's work behind establishing Akamai was based on recognizing that a solution to freeing up Web congestion could be found in applied mathematics and algorithms. During the course of his career, he has served on dozens of government, industrial and academic review committees. From 2003 to 2005, he served on the President's Information Technology Advisory Committee (PITAC), during which time he chaired the Subcommittee on Cybersecurity. He has published more than 100 research papers and holds numerous patents involving content delivery, Internet protocols, cryptography, and digital rights management. Dr. Leighton graduated summa cum laude from Princeton University with a B.S. in Engineering and received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from MIT.

Andrew studies how computer technologies are changing business, the economy, and society. His 2014 book on these topics, The Second Machine Age: Work, Progress, and Prosperity in a Time of Brilliant Technologies, co-authored with Erik Brynjolfsson, has won several prestigious awards and has been both a New York Times and Wall Street Journal top-10 bestseller. He is also the author of the 2009 book Enterprise 2.0: New Collaborative Tools for Your Organization’s Toughest Challenges. Andrew’s newest book — Machine, Platform, Crowd: Harnessing our Digital Future, published in June 2017 — offers an executive’s guide to succeeding during this turbulent era when technologies are hurtling forward at such a startling pace.

Andrew has been named to both the Thinkers 50 list of the world’s top management thinkers and to the Politico 50 group of people transforming American politics. He writes popular blogs, academic papers, and articles for publications including Harvard Business Review, The Economist, The Wall Street Journal, and The New York Times. He’s talked about his work on CNN and “60 Minutes;” at the World Economic Forum; TED and the Aspen Ideas Festival; with Tom Friedman, Charlie Rose, and Fareed Zakaria; and in front of innumerable global and domestic audiences. Andrew was educated at Harvard and MIT, and lives in Cambridge.


Kathleen Murphy

Kathleen Murphy joined Fidelity in 2009 as President of Personal Investing, which provides a full range of investment and financial planning services to millions of individual investors including wealth management, retirement planning, and brokerage. Personal Investing is a leading provider of offerings such as mutual funds, IRAs, ETFs, college savings plans, and more. Ms. Murphy also oversees Fidelity’s life insurance and annuities business, its workplace savings business for tax-exempt organizations, all of the firm’s brand and advertising programs, and Fidelity's digital programs.

Prior to joining Fidelity, Kathy was CEO of ING U.S. Wealth Management, leading the Defined Contribution, Defined Benefit, Retirement Solutions, Annuities, and ING Advisors Network businesses. Ms. Murphy began her career with Aetna, spending 15 years in a variety of legal and government affairs positions, eventually serving as general counsel and chief compliance officer, Aetna Financial Services.

Kathy sits on the Board of Governors of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), the Board of Directors of the Markle Foundation, and the Board of Directors and Vice Chair of the National Football Foundation. She has repeatedly been named one of the “50 Most Powerful Women in American Business” by Fortune magazine, one of the “Wall Street Top 50” and “Business 100” by Irish America magazine, and named as one of the “25 Most Powerful Women in Finance” by US Banker, among other honors.

President & GM, Web, Akamai

Rick McConnell is President of Akamai and General Manager of the Web Division. As General Manager, he is responsible for leading the Web Division's core functions of engineering and product development, product management, sales, channels and product marketing. As President of Akamai, Mr. McConnell oversees several additional functions including corporate development, the company's product lifecycle process and customer portal.

With over 25 years of product and business development expertise, Mr. McConnell has focused his career on the areas of Internet communications and collaboration technologies. Since joining Akamai in 2011, Mr. McConnell has been instrumental in managing and scaling the development, innovation, and productivity of Akamai's product divisions. Under his leadership, Akamai has released market-leading solutions in the areas of Web site and application acceleration, enterprise cloud, security, mobile performance, and media. Mr. McConnell is based in Akamai's Santa Clara, CA, office.


Bobby Blumofe

SVP and GM, Enterprise Division, Akamai

Robert Blumofe is Executive Vice President of the Akamai Platform organization and General Manager of the Enterprise and Carrier Division. As General Manager, he is responsible for the creation and sale of products and services to help carriers operate a high-performing and cost-efficient network, and for major enterprises to improve the performance, cost, security and efficiency of their networks and applications.

As Executive Vice President of the Akamai Platform organization, Dr. Blumofe is responsible for developing and operating the distributed system underlying all Akamai products and services. Dr. Blumofe also leads the teams responsible for the global strategy and deployment of Akamai's network infrastructure, as well as Akamai's internal IT department.

Dr. Blumofe joined Akamai in 1999 to lead the Company's first performance team. Serving as one of Akamai's chief architects, Dr. Blumofe was instrumental in the early design and development of the Akamai Platform, which now handles trillions of Internet requests daily. He has led all of Networks and Operations since 2004.


Adam Karon

Adam Karon is Executive Vice President & General Manager of the Media Division at Akamai. Mr. Karon is responsible for leading the Media Division’s core functions of engineering and product development, product management, sales, channels, sales engineering, and marketing, focused on enabling today’s leading media, gaming and software companies to deliver the best possible experiences – at scale – to their customers on any device, anywhere.

Mr. Karon oversees Company strategy and product direction to support all of Akamai’s customers with their over-the-top (OTT) video, live events, and streaming video optimization requirements. Throughout his time at Akamai, Mr. Karon has worked extensively with the world’s largest broadcasters and media businesses, and has helped launch new digital media technologies and services including Akamai’s award-winning Broadcast Operations Control Center (BOCC).

Prior to leading Akamai’s Media Division, Mr. Karon served as Senior Vice President of Akamai’s 2000-employee Global Services and Support Organization. In this role, he led Professional Services, Services Product, Customer Experience, Account Management, Customer Support as well as Akamai’s Managed Security Services. Mr. Karon has been a key contributor to the growth of Akamai’s Global Services Organization from its early beginnings to its current position as a leading global services provider, working with the Internet’s most influential companies.

Mr. Karon joined Akamai in 2005 from Leftbrain Solutions, where he served as Client Director for General Electric’s Power Systems division, and was the lead for their “Procure to Pay” digitalization effort.

SVP & CMO, Akamai

Monique Bonner is Senior Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer at Akamai. She leads Akamai's global corporate marketing and communications initiatives, including all facets of the Akamai brand, as well as the company's digital marketing strategy and go-to-market programs.

Ms. Bonner has over 20 years of marketing and operations experience leveraging digital technologies, big data, and advanced analytics to drive effective and personalized marketing at scale.

Prior to Akamai, Ms. Bonner held several global leadership roles at Dell, most recently serving as VP of Global Digital, Technology and Innovation with a focus on optimizing marketing operations effectiveness. She joined Dell in 2000 and has held roles including Vice President, Global Brand, Digital and Solutions Marketing; and Vice President, Americas Marketing. She spent seven years overseas managing Dell's European marketing and sales teams.

Ms. Bonner has served on the Ad Council's Board of Directors and Conference Board's Council for Brand Management. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from Middlebury College and her Master of Business from the University of Michigan.
