Tom Leighton

Tom Leighton

CEO & Co-founder, Akamai Technolgies

Dr. Tom Leighton co-founded Akamai Technologies in 1998, and served as Akamai's Chief Scientist for 14 years before becoming Chief Executive. Prior to his role as CEO, Dr. Leighton served as a Professor of Applied Mathematics at MIT and a member of the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL). As one of the world's preeminent authorities on algorithms for network applications, Dr. Leighton's work behind establishing Akamai was based on recognizing that a solution to freeing up Web congestion could be found in applied mathematics and algorithms. During the course of his career, he has served on dozens of government, industrial and academic review committees. From 2003 to 2005, he served on the President's Information Technology Advisory Committee (PITAC), during which time he chaired the Subcommittee on Cybersecurity. He has published more than 100 research papers and holds numerous patents involving content delivery, Internet protocols, cryptography, and digital rights management. Dr. Leighton graduated summa cum laude from Princeton University with a B.S. in Engineering and received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from MIT.

Principal Research Scientist at the MIT Sloan School of Management

Andrew studies how computer technologies are changing business, the economy, and society. His 2014 book on these topics, The Second Machine Age: Work, Progress, and Prosperity in a Time of Brilliant Technologies, co-authored with Erik Brynjolfsson, has won several prestigious awards and has been both a New York Times and Wall Street Journal top-10 bestseller. He is also the author of the 2009 book Enterprise 2.0: New Collaborative Tools for Your Organization’s Toughest Challenges. Andrew’s newest book — Machine, Platform, Crowd: Harnessing our Digital Future, published in June 2017 — offers an executive’s guide to succeeding during this turbulent era when technologies are hurtling forward at such a startling pace.

Andrew has been named to both the Thinkers 50 list of the world’s top management thinkers and to the Politico 50 group of people transforming American politics. He writes popular blogs, academic papers, and articles for publications including Harvard Business Review, The Economist, The Wall Street Journal, and The New York Times. He’s talked about his work on CNN and “60 Minutes;” at the World Economic Forum; TED and the Aspen Ideas Festival; with Tom Friedman, Charlie Rose, and Fareed Zakaria; and in front of innumerable global and domestic audiences. Andrew was educated at Harvard and MIT, and lives in Cambridge.


Kathleen Murphy

President, Personal Investing, Fidelity Investments

Kathleen Murphy joined Fidelity in 2009 as President of Personal Investing, which provides a full range of investment and financial planning services to millions of individual investors including wealth management, retirement planning, and brokerage. Personal Investing is a leading provider of offerings such as mutual funds, IRAs, ETFs, college savings plans, and more. Ms. Murphy also oversees Fidelity’s life insurance and annuities business, its workplace savings business for tax-exempt organizations, all of the firm’s brand and advertising programs, and Fidelity's digital programs.

Prior to joining Fidelity, Kathy was CEO of ING U.S. Wealth Management, leading the Defined Contribution, Defined Benefit, Retirement Solutions, Annuities, and ING Advisors Network businesses. Ms. Murphy began her career with Aetna, spending 15 years in a variety of legal and government affairs positions, eventually serving as general counsel and chief compliance officer, Aetna Financial Services.

Kathy sits on the Board of Governors of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), the Board of Directors of the Markle Foundation, and the Board of Directors and Vice Chair of the National Football Foundation. She has repeatedly been named one of the “50 Most Powerful Women in American Business” by Fortune magazine, one of the “Wall Street Top 50” and “Business 100” by Irish America magazine, and named as one of the “25 Most Powerful Women in Finance” by US Banker, among other honors.

Monique Bonner

SVP & CMO, Akamai

Monique Bonner is Senior Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer at Akamai. She leads Akamai's global corporate marketing and communications initiatives, including all facets of the Akamai brand, as well as the company's digital marketing strategy and go-to-market programs.

Ms. Bonner has over 20 years of marketing and operations experience leveraging digital technologies, big data, and advanced analytics to drive effective and personalized marketing at scale.

Prior to Akamai, Ms. Bonner held several global leadership roles at Dell, most recently serving as VP of Global Digital, Technology and Innovation with a focus on optimizing marketing operations effectiveness. She joined Dell in 2000 and has held roles including Vice President, Global Brand, Digital and Solutions Marketing; and Vice President, Americas Marketing. She spent seven years overseas managing Dell's European marketing and sales teams.

Ms. Bonner has served on the Ad Council's Board of Directors and Conference Board's Council for Brand Management. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from Middlebury College and her Master of Business from the University of Michigan.


Ash Kulkarni

Ashutosh (Ash) Kulkarni

SVP & General Manager, Web Experience Division, Akamai

Ashutosh (Ash) Kulkarni is Senior Vice President & General Manager of the Web Performance and Security Division at Akamai. Mr. Kulkarni leads the Akamai team responsible for the technology and solutions that enable customers to provide a fast, reliable and secure experience for their websites and applications.

Mr. Kulkarni has over 20 years of product management, product development, product marketing, business development and strategy experience.

Prior to Akamai, he served as Senior Vice President and General Manager of Informatica’s Cloud and Internet of Things (IoT) businesses. He has also held senior VP and GM roles at Informatica for Data Integration and Data Quality, and for Informatica’s portfolio of emerging technology areas including Big Data, B2B, Ultra Messaging, Complex Event Processing (CEP), and Data Replication.

Prior to Informatica, Mr. Kulkarni spent several years at Sun Microsystems in various product management and development roles where he was responsible for leading Sun’s Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) initiative.

Mr. Kulkarni earned his Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Mumbai; his Master of Science from the University of Texas at Austin; and his Master of Business Administration from the University of California, Berkeley.


Craig Adams

VP, Web Performance Product Management, Akamai

Craig Adams is Vice President, Web Performance Product Management at Akamai. In this role, Craig has global responsibility for the strategy and management of Akamai’s Web Experience solutions portfolio, which enables Akamai customers to deliver innovative, instant web experiences on any device, anywhere.

Craig has a diverse background that spans over 15 years at Akamai, with leadership roles in sales, services and support, technical services delivery and country management. Craig is passionate about creating and launching new programs and offerings that enable Akamai customers to successfully meet their business objectives, while also contributing to Akamai’s growth and profitability. Under Craig’s leadership, Akamai adopted the use of the NetPromoter Score to monitor and increase customer satisfaction. Craig also launched Akamai University for Customers, certifying over 3,000 customers on Akamai solutions as well as the Customer Experience program and the Customer Champion Awards, driving a “customer first” focus at Akamai. As a country manager, Craig was responsible for establishing and expanding Akamai’s presence and awareness in two strategic markets: Asia Pacific and Latin America. Craig has also been instrumental in leading integrations for strategic acquisitions, including Speedera, Netli, Velocitude and Cotendo.

Craig has a degree in Management Information Systems from Utah State University and post-graduate education from MIT Sloan School of Management. Craig’s industry expertise and innovation has been recognized by industry associations and publications including the Technology Services Industry Association, The Stevie® Awards, the Service and Support Professionals Association.


Charlie Gero

CTO, Enterprise Management, Akamai

Charlie Gero has worked in security, networking, and the software engineering fields for 20 years, with a decade spent at Akamai.

Prior to Akamai, Charlie was an entrepreneur and served in key computer science positions within the pharmaceutical and networking industries. Currently the CTO of the Enterprise Division, Charlie has also served as lead of the advanced R&D group at Akamai and holds many patents in the areas of cryptography, distributed systems, compression, and more.

Charlie brings a wealth of deep technical experience in security and networks and has degrees in Physics and Computer Science from Moravian College.


Josh Shaul

Josh Shaul

VP, Product Management, Akamai

Josh Shaul leads Akamai’s web security product management organization and is responsible for driving security product strategy, roadmap, and revenue growth. Akamai’s web security products include Kona Site Defender, a cloud-based application security platform, Prolexic DDoS defense, a cloud-based network security platform, Fast-DNS, a cloud-based secure DNS platform, and several other vertical market specific security products and services that leverage Akamai’s unique distributed computing platform to provide a layer of defense that scales across the globe on demand, and in real time.

Shaul has nearly 20 years of experience in the information security industry, joining Akamai in 2016. Prior to Akamai, Shaul led security product and managed services organizations at SafeNet, Application Security, and Trustwave.

Shaul holds a bachelor of science degree in computer systems engineering from the University of Massachusetts, and coauthored the book ‘Practical Oracle Security’.


Stephen Ludin

Chief Architect, Akamai

Stephen Ludin is a Chief Architect for Akamai's Web Experience group and author of “Learning HTTP/2”. He currently heads the company's Foundry team - a small group dedicated to innovating on the edge of technology. He joined Akamai in 2002 and works out of Akamai's San Francisco office. His primary focus has been on projects related to the core proxy technology that is responsible for routing, accelerating, and securing Akamai's traffic.


John Sherwood

John Sherwood

Vice President, Engineering and Technology, CBS Interactive

John Sherwood is VP of Technology and Engineering for the Tech Group at CBS Interactive. He is responsible for the overall technology strategy and development of CNET, ZDNet and TechRepublic. This includes all aspects of the business including Big Data backend systems, DevOps, Native Apps and Front-end webapps. Video, site performance and the proliferation of 3rd party integrations, and their impact on the sites, has been a major focus for the past several years. A long time veteran in the Media space, John has worked across multiple large-scale brands. Prior to his current role, John was Sr. Director of Engineering for CBS News. He has been through more CMS, platform and data center builds and migrations than he cares to remember.


Naveen Manga

Vice President, Customer Journey Technology & Delivery, Hilton Worldwide

As Vice President of Customer Journey Technology and Delivery, Naveen oversees architecture, development, quality, product and PMO functions of all customer facing applications at Hilton – digital (web & mobile), property and call center channels. Prior to joining Hilton, Naveen held various architecture and development leadership roles at Service Master, International Paper and Boeing. Outside of work, Naveen serves on the Board of Trustees at Lausanne Collegiate School, plays hoops with his two kids and is a huge fan of the Memphis Grizzlies.


Michael Fay

VP Product and Operations, Akamai

Michael Fay has over 15 years of management experience with new media and online content strategies. Having developed and supported a broad range of Internet-based solutions with exposure to enterprise, education, broadcast and professional sports clientele, Michael has been part of countless landmark developments related to Internet delivered content. Past success stories include successful deployments of online programming (OTT/VOD) for global broadcast brands, international software support and flash crowd management for the largest live events and game launches in Internet history. Michael Fay has held global management positions with a focus on product and program Management and has worked internationally for various global technology companies that deliver Internet and software solutions. Michael maintains a sustained focus on developing new markets, providing growth strategies and succeeding in the execution of business plans. Academic achievements include a graduate degree in International Business Management, various professional certifications and undergraduate degree in Marine Transportation.


Brooks Tobey

Brooks Tobey

Head of Technology Strategy and Business Operations, Turner

Brooks Tobey is head of technology strategy and business operations for Turner. As part of the company’s Global Technology & Operations organization, Tobey provides strategic leadership for linear and digital platforms, monetization capabilities and digital video delivery systems. He is also responsible for Turner’s cloud strategy. Tobey is based in Atlanta and reports to Jeremy Legg, chief technology officer for Turner.

During his 17 years with company, Tobey has guided the development of ad sales systems and a linear trafficking system, digital ad systems implementations, mobile operations and development, and multi-platform distribution technologies for the company. Previously, Tobey was product manager for McDonalds’ global store systems. He also worked with the Army National Guard in IT systems design and development.

Tobey holds a bachelor of science in computer science, and a master of business administration in technology management. He serves as a board member for the Technology Association of Georgia and board advisor for You.i TV. Tobey has earned multiple distinctions as a member of the CableFAX Digital Hot List.
